Untitled (Four Rivers of Life), 1984 Basquiat wanted to use words as if they were brushstrokes in the painting. The words, lists of words, or phrases that made up his compositions, formed a fundamental part of his artistic work SAMO (acronym of SAMe Old shit, that is to say, “the same old shit”, “the same old crap”).
